The Scribble Booth: Write It on the Glass

What is a Scribble Booth?

The Scribble Booth is an interactive video activation where guests write on a glowing sheet of glass, and every word turns into a personalized, branded video they can share in seconds. No posing, no props, no waiting for a print. Just a marker, a glass panel lit from the edges, and whatever your guests want to say.

We brought the first scribble booth to the San Francisco Bay Area this fall, and it’s already our favorite thing to set up. Guests write a holiday wish for a brand campaign, leave a message for the team at a launch, or finish a sentence the host gives them. The camera catches all of it, flips it the right way around, and hands back a short branded clip.

If you’ve seen a neon glass video booth or a mirror writing booth on Instagram, this is that. Here’s how it works and how to use it at your next event.

How the Scribble Booth works

Guests stand behind a clear glass panel with LED light running through its edges. When they write on it with a fluorescent marker, the ink catches the light and glows like neon against a dark background.

  1. Tap to start. The attendant hands over a marker and the guest taps the screen.
  2. Write for 15 seconds. A name, a message, a doodle, a sentence they finish. The camera records from the other side of the glass.
  3. The video flips itself. Software mirrors the clip, so the writing reads correctly to everyone watching.
  4. It speeds up. The clip plays back at three times speed, so a slow scrawl becomes a quick, satisfying reveal.
  5. Share instantly. Guests get the video by text, email or QR code before they’ve put the marker down.

Guests get their clip before they’ve put the marker down.

Each video ends with a branded end card, so every clip your guests post carries your logo, your event name or your hashtag. We wipe the glass between guests, so each one starts clean.

Why guests love it

Most photo booths ask guests to pose. The scribble booth asks them to say something, and that’s what people remember.

The best moments come from a prompt. Give guests one sentence to finish and watch the line form. “This year we…” at a company party. “To the happy couple…” at a wedding. “United, we can…” at a fundraiser. Guests who would never pose for a photo will happily write three words on the glass.

Sell the story, not the booth. See the clip on LinkedIn.

It also works as a game. Teams race to draw the company logo, two coworkers write a message together, or a table takes turns adding one word each. The videos get funnier as the night goes on, and the whole room ends up watching the booth.

Ideas for your event

Holiday campaign activation. Prompt: “This season I wish for…” You get guest wishes in your branding, posted all season long.

Holiday party. Prompt: “My favorite moment this year was…” You get a reel of your team’s year, written in their own hands.

Conference or summit. Prompt: “My biggest takeaway…” You get attendee quotes you can post all week.

Product launch. Prompt: circle your favorite feature, or write one word for the product. You get branded clips that double as social content.

Film premiere or game launch. Prompt: leave a message for the cast, or draw your favorite character. You get fan reactions ready for Reels and TikTok.

Fundraiser or gala. Prompt: “I give because…” You get donor messages for next year’s campaign.

Wedding. Prompt: “To the happy couple…” You get a video guestbook the couple will actually watch.

We set the prompt on the start screen, so guests see it before they pick up the marker.

Branding and what you get after

Every clip is branded before it leaves the booth. We design a start screen with your logo and prompt, a video overlay in your colors, and an end card with your logo, event name or hashtag. The booth itself is black, with a lit panel on the side that can carry your branding too.

After the event you get an online gallery of every video, ready to download, plus the numbers: how many clips were made, how many were shared, and the emails guests opted in with. Most clients pull their favorites into a highlight reel for social within a day or two. A corporate event of 150 guests usually produces 80 to 120 clips, which is a month of content from one night.

For agencies and brand activations

If you pitch experiential ideas to clients, the scribble booth is the activation they haven’t seen yet. Guests become creators instead of subjects, and every clip is user generated content in your client’s branding, sized for Reels, TikTok and Stories.

It holds attention longer than a photo booth. Guests think about what to write, watch their clip play back, and send friends over to try it. For the client, that means dwell time at the activation, content made by real guests, and numbers to report after: videos created, shares, and opted in emails.

We build the prompt, the overlay and the end card around the campaign, so the same booth can be a holiday wish wall at a retail activation one week and a premiere the next. Picture a department store at the holidays: guests write what they’re wishing for, and every clip goes out with the store’s branding. Send us the brief and we’ll mock up the start screen and a sample clip for your deck.

Space, power and setup

The scribble booth is compact. Here’s what planners need to know.

  • Footprint: about 6 by 6 feet, with the booth itself around 2.5 feet wide and 6.5 feet tall.
  • Power: one standard outlet within 25 feet.
  • Lighting: it looks best in a dim or moody room, where the glowing ink pops. Bright daylight washes out the glass, so indoors or evening is ideal.
  • Setup: about 60 minutes. Breakdown is 30.
  • Staff: one Chroma attendant runs the booth, hands out markers and wipes the glass between guests.
  • Guests per hour: about 40 to 50, since each session is under a minute.

It fits in a hotel ballroom corner, a conference lounge or a living room, and it pairs well with a print booth if you want both a keepsake and a video.

Scribble booth FAQ

What is a scribble booth?
A video booth where guests write or draw on a glowing glass panel. The camera records from behind the glass, mirrors the video so the writing reads correctly, and sends guests a short clip.

Is it the same as a glass writing booth or a neon video booth?
Yes. Different companies use different names. Scribble booth, glass writing booth, neon glass booth and mirror writing booth all describe the same experience.

Can guests write in different colors?
Yes. We bring a set of fluorescent markers, and the colors glow against the dark background. We can match marker colors to your brand.

What if a guest writes something they shouldn’t?
Our attendant can delete any clip on the spot before it’s shared, and we wipe the glass between every guest.

Does it print?
The scribble booth is video only. If you want prints too, we pair it with one of our print booths.

Can the glass be branded?
The lit side panel of the booth can carry your logo. The glass itself stays clear so the writing is the star.

Do I get data from the booth?
Yes. You get a count of videos made and shared, and the email addresses guests opt in with when they send themselves a clip. That makes it a strong fit for fundraisers, product launches and lead generation at conferences.

How much does a scribble booth cost in the Bay Area?
Pricing depends on hours and branding. Send us your date and we’ll put together a quote the same day.
